Clif Bar & Company is initiating a voluntary recall of CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bars, and CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® trail mix bars. Clif Bar & Company’s sunflower kernel supplier, SunOpta, has notified the company of a Listeria monocytogenes contamination that could potentially affect these two product flavors.
Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono) is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Clif Bar & Company has not received any news of Clif consumers being affected; however the company is issuing a voluntary recall of all two product flavors from the market out of an abundance of caution.
